An archetypal 1930s building has benefited from a £125,000 fenestration refurbishment using Sapa Building Systems' Dualframe window suite.

The buildings of Lady Eleanor Holles School in Hampton, Middlesex, were purpose built in 1937 and are a classic example of architecture of their time, with the elegance and simplicity of the buildings continuing in the symmetrical lines of the windows.

Around 90 of the existing ageing windows on the ground and first floors were replaced wioth Dualframe 75mm casement windows under a contract awarded to Feltham Glass Works, a company that has specialised in the school refurbishment sector for over 30 years.

The slim lines of the aluminium frames made Dualframe an ideal solution, ensuring that the windows remained in keeping with the original architecture and yet adding the benefit of modern standards of thermal performance.

The new windows were supplied in white polyester powder coat finish to reflect the original window style, although an added benefit of the Dualframe system is its ability to be specified with different finishes inside and outside.

Technical Aspects

Problems associated with solar gain and glare were overcome by the use of Pilkington anti-sun glass which also removed the need for costly internal blinds in the classrooms.
