A new build PFI project has recently been completed using Sapa Building Systems’ new Dualframe window and door suite. Laing O’Rourke were contracted to build the development under the Government funded LIFT scheme.

NHS LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) aims to develop a new market for investment in primary care and community based facilities and services.

This was the first project completed by Sapa for Laing O’Rourke on their LIFT schemes and demonstrated quality of products and service throughout the supply chain.

Fixing ribbon windows into the rotunda was a particularly challenging element of the project. To cope with the unique demands of this installation Sapa designed inward opening windows with automatic actuators and Pilkington’s self cleaning Activ glass to provide a low-maintenance installation with high level ventilation.

The slim sightlines of the aluminium frames made Dualframe an ideal solution, offering the benefit of different colours for the internal and external faces where required.

Public Buildings Specialist

Evidence of our systems’ flexibility can be seen in numerous public buildings around the country and across Europe - traditional and modern.

Their slim line looks not only improve sight lines but make them ideal for refurbishment projects, especially in strict conservation areas.

Sapa’s systems are also designed to blend in sympathetically with varying architectural styles. This has become one of the main reasons for their growing popularity with specifiers in the public building sector.

Smooth lines are a key feature of our products, which mean that there are no awkward crevesses to gather dirt. A variety of hardware, including anti-ligature options, allow for safety and easy cleaning making them specially suitable for hospital applications.

Technical Aspects

As well as designing remote opening windows for the rotunda, Sapa had to develop a special inert gasket. Initial trials with Pilkington’s Activ glazing revealed that standard gaskets reacted with the surface coating of the glass. This special range of gaskets is now available to installers from stock.
