A new £4.4m livestock market development in Carmarthen has been completed using Sapa Building Systems' fire screens, commercial doors, curtain walling and windows.
Designed by Carmarthenshire County Council, the 'Carmarthen Mart' was developed on a greenfield site adjacent to the United Counties Showground after being moved from its previous home in the City centre. The new facilities provided at the Mart include a restaurant, administration offices and ten purpose-built retail units, which are leased to agricultural traders to use on market days.
The fenestration was fabricated and installed by Alcoplan and features a restaurant area enclosed by Sapa's Fireframe screening system, offering a fire resistant barrier between the restaurant and the rest of the building. The stunning front elevation of the main building features Gridframe 312 curtain walling, while Stormframe 202 commercial doors were used for the ten retail units. All of the fenestration was colour suited in blue.

Technical Considerations
Internal doors and screens were required to be fire resistant, but to be in keeping with the look of the entire project. They were therefore constructed and colour matched using our Fireframe system, which, when fitted with the appropriate glass, can give upto 120 minutes integrity and 30 minutes insulation against fire, in accordance with BS 476 Part 22 1987. Depending on performance required, Fireframe can accept 6mm, 7mm, 10mm, 15mm or 18mm single glazing.
